Samsung launches one more UWB chip for cars

Samsung has announced its most advanced UWB chip for cars—Exynos Auto UA200—yet. It comes after the Exynos Auto UA100, which was unveiled last week. This chip offers precision distance measurement and advanced security needed for modern connected cars and the related experience.

Exynos Auto UA200 offers centimeter-level distance measurement accuracy in cars

System LSI, Samsung's semiconductor chip design division, unveiled the Exynos Auto UA200 chip that brings Ultra-WideBand (UWB) connectivity to connected cars. It brings advanced ranging capabilities with centimeter-level accuracy and powerful security. When used in a car key fob, it can detect your location with respect to the car.

The chip can work with radar to monitor the driver's respiratory rate and supports Child Presence Detection (CPD), which has become mandatory in Europe starting from 2025.

Handling such critical information with care is necessary. Hence, the UA200 features advanced security using Scrambled Timestamp Sequence (STS) technology to encrypt the signal's time data. It has six channels instead of the two found on the Exynos Auto UA100.

The UA200 has a built-in tri-core Cortex-M33 microcontroller, a baseband block, a radio frequency (RF) block, NVM storage, and a Power Management Unit (PMU). It has 416KB SRAM and 2MB eFlash storage. The chip is currently being sampled to clients and could go into mass production in the near future.
