Even though Apple and Samsung Electronics are rivals, Apple buys millions of OLED panels from Samsung each year. And the use of OLED panels across Apple's device lineups is only increasing with each passing year. Starting next year, Samsung will likely earn even more money from Apple, thanks to the upcoming MacBook Pro.
MacBook Pro will likely use Samsung's OLED panel from 2026
A report from market research firm Omdia states (via Apple Insider) that Apple will switch from LCD TFT panels to OLED panels for its MacBook Pro lineup starting 2026. Lina Lin, Senior Principal Analyst for Tablet and Notebook Display and OEM at Omdia, said Samsung Display will likely enter Apple's supply chain for OLED panels for future MacBook Pro models.
Since Samsung has been selling OLED panels for other laptop brands for more than a couple of years, it has enough experience in the field. And it has been selling OLED panels to Apple for years, so it has enough know-how to sell OLED panels for the upcoming MacBook Pro models.
Thanks to the OLED panel, Apple is rumored to switch from a notch to a pill-shaped cutout for its fututure MacBooK Pro models. It would be similar to the pill + punch-hole cutout iPhones have. If that is the case, there is a chance of Apple equipping its high-end laptops with a Face ID system for 3D facial recognition.
Since Apple sells millions of MacBooks every year, Samsung would be able to earn millions of dollars by supplying OLED panels for US-based tech giant's MacBook Pro laptops. It already sells OLED panels for iPhones, iPad Pros, and Apple Watches. Even MacBook Air is expected to start using OLED panels starting 2029.
