Gemini Live crashing Galaxy S23’s launcher on One UI 7 Beta 2

On Wednesday, Samsung released the second beta version of Android 15-based One UI 7.0 to the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra. It brings many new features, including the ability to summon Google Gemini with the power/side button, as well as many bug fixes. However, it also introduces an issue where, when you go from Gemini Live to the home screen, the stock launcher crashes.

On X, @SteFabolous posted a video showing that while using Gemini Live on their Galaxy S23 with One UI 7 Beta 2, when they go to the home screen, One UI Home stops responding to their inputs and the phone shows them a message that the System UI has stopped responding, giving them an option to force close it. Once they do that, the launcher reloads, and everything starts working again.

Other people commented on the post saying that they, too, were facing the same issue. Looking at the user reports, we tried replicating the same issue on our Galaxy S23, and unfortunately, we were successful. We closed all apps on our phone, then opened the Gemini app, went into the Live mode, and then tapped on the home button. When we did that, everything seemed fine.

We then clicked on the Calculator app on the home screen. The phone opened the app, but at the same time, the navigation buttons grayed out. When we tapped them, we got a message saying “System UI isn’t responding” with options to close the app or wait for it to go back to normal. The only way to get things working again was to force close the launcher.

Mind you, this doesn’t happen when you are using Gemini without the Live mode. We hope that Samsung is taking note of this problem and will quickly offer a fix for it.
