Affordable Samsung Galaxy A-series phone will no longer get software updates

Affordable Samsung Galaxy A-series phone will no longer get software updates

Samsung has ended support for one of its affordable mid-range Galaxy A-series phones. The Galaxy A23 5G will no longer receive any software updates.

The Galaxy A23's LTE model stopped getting updates in April 2026, as it hit retail shelves a few months before the 5G variant. But the 5G variant is now joining the LTE model and will watch from the sidelines as newer devices continue receiving software updates.

The Galaxy A23 5G went on sale in 2022 running Android 12 (One UI 4.0) and received upgrades to Android 13 and Android 14 before Samsung stopped providing major OS upgrades and limited it to security updates. It received quarterly security updates for two years after getting its final major OS upgrade.

The Galaxy A23 5G was the last phone in the Galaxy A2x lineup with such a short update promise, at least when it came to major OS upgrades. The Galaxy A24 launched with a promise of four major OS upgrades and five years of security updates.

Support is even better on newer models, with Samsung promising six years of OS and security updates for the Galaxy A26 and Galaxy A27.

If you're still using a Galaxy A23 5G and want to keep receiving software updates, this may be a good time to start thinking about an upgrade.

The Galaxy A27 brings several improvements, including an Infinity-O AMOLED display instead of an LCD, Android 16 and One UI 8.5 out of the box, a newer, more efficient Snapdragon chip, and a slimmer body (7.8mm vs the A23 5G's 8.4mm frame).
