Almost every new Galaxy Z Flip has featured a larger cover display than its predecessor, and Samsung has steadily expanded what users can do with it. Even so, the cover screen experience still feels unnecessarily limited. Out of the box, users are restricted to a small selection of widgets and apps.
Power users can work around this limitation with Good Lock's MultiStar module to run virtually any app on the cover display, but it feels more like a clunky workaround than a polished, native feature. The experience is rarely seamless, but the brand could finally change that with the Galaxy Z Flip 8.
According to a new report, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will offer “continuous use of the internal and external screens, similar to the [Galaxy] Z Fold.” It further says, “Uses internal and external screens in the same way, not via widgets.”
Based on that description, it looks like the phone may let people use the outer screen much like the main display, with the same level of functionality and seamless continuity between the two screens, just like the Galaxy Z Fold.
If the report turns out to be accurate, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 could become a much more useful device. Most people didn't expect Samsung to bring such a major upgrade to the cover display this soon. If the experience works as promised, it could make the phone more appealing to buyers and help boost its sales.
