Samsung makes some excellent smartwatches, especially for Android smartphone users. The South Korean firm's sales grew 74% in the first quarter of this year. However, its global ranking still hasn't improved, as it still ranks fourth in Q1 2025, which is the same as last year.
Samsung ranks fourth globally in Q1 2025 smartwatch sales
According to the data from Canalys' recent report, Samsung shipped 4.9 million smartwatches and fitness bands in Q1 2025. It ranked fourth globally during the quarter and captured a market share of 11%. While the company's sales grew 74% compared to Q1 2024, its ranking didn't improve, as other brands that rank above Samsung also grew at a good rate.

The South Korean firm reportedly used a dual-track strategy. It expanded its userbase in emerging markets with lower-priced devices like the Galaxy Fit 3 and the Galaxy Watch FE and worked on retaining its existing userbase through premium smartwatches like the Galaxy Watch Ultra.
Samsung is expected to launch two new smartwatches this year. Those are likely the Galaxy Watch 8 and the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic. There might not be a second-generation Galaxy Watch Ultra this year. Even if there is a newer version, it might only be a new color, as per previous reports.

Xiaomi ranked first with 8.7 million shipments, overtaking Apple this year. Its market share was 19% during the quarter. And most of those sales were attributed to the Redmi Band 5, which is a $30 fitness tracking band. The Chinese firm's sales rose 44% compared to last year.
Apple dropped to the second rank even after shipping 7.6 million Apple Watches. While its shipments improved 5% compared to last year, it wasn't enough to contain Xiaomi's 44% rise. It captured an 11% share of the market. The firm is expected to improve its shipments in the second half of this year with the launch of the Apple Watch Series 11 and possible an improved Apple Watch SE.
Huawei ranked third globally and had a 15% share of the market. It shipped 7.1 million smartwatches and fitness bands and its shipments by 33% compared to last year. That is impressive considering its devices are generally not welcomed in the USA and some other western markets.
Garmin, with its focus on hardcore fitness enthusiasts and atheletes, captured a 4% share of the market. It shipped 10% more smartwatches in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.
