Exynos 2500 chip’s performance revealed ahead of debut

We exclusively reported last week that Samsung's first 3nm smartphone chip will debut with the Galaxy Z Flip 7 in July. A new leak has now shed some light on the Exynos 2500's performance, as the unannounced processor has showed up in Geekbench's database.

Let us have a look at the performance figures of the Exynos 2500.

The US (carrier-locked) variant of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 with model number SM-F766U was spotted (via @yabhishekhd) in Geekbench's database. It reveals some of the Galaxy Z Flip 7's specs, including its Exynos 2500 chip (S5E9955) and 12GB of RAM. As we exclusively reported earlier, the phone runs Android 16 (One UI 8.0) out of the box.

The Exynos 2500 scored 2,012 points in Geekbench's (version 6) single-core CPU test and 7,563 points in the multi-core CPU test. These scores are much lower than most recent flagship chips from Apple, MediaTek, and Qualcomm. Even Xiaomi's first in-house flagship chip performs much better than this.

The Exynos 2500 is just slightly better than last year's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip that was used in the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Flip 6, and the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Maybe Samsung has intentionally clocked the chip much lower than what is possible to better manage thermals inside the Galaxy Z Flip 7. However, it still doesn't look good that Samsung's first 3nm chip is far behind its rivals in terms of raw performance.

The Exynos 2500 has a 10-core CPU, featuring one Cortex-X925 CPU core running at 3.3GHz, two Cortex-A725 CPU cores clocked at 2.75GHz, five Cortex-A725 CPU cores clocked at 2.36GHz, and two Cortex-A520 CPU cores running at 1.8GHz. It uses Samsung's in-house Xclipse 950 GPU, likely based on AMD's RDNA 3.5 architecture. We notice that its prime CPU core (Cortex-X925) is clocked at much lower speeds than the competition, which are close to 4GHz or even higher.

Since the variant of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 bound for the USA uses an Exynos chip, it is likely that Samsung will use it in all the Galaxy Z Flip 7 units sold globally. Our previous report already revealed that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 sold in India and South Korea will have the Exynos 2500 chip.
