Entering a new and emerging market can be risky, but Samsung often takes on the challenge, and now, the company is eyeing the AI-powered robot segment. Ballie, the AI companion Samsung teased on and on for years, is ready to roll onto the big stage this week.
Today, Samsung announced through a short video on Instagram that “Ballie will make a special appearance on-stage this week.” The company hasn't revealed which stage, but the short video shows the yellow rolling robot in action and ready to steal the spotlight.
We suspected Samsung was getting ready to bring Ballie to the market when the robot unexpectedly popped up in a short SmartThings promo video at the end of March.
A robot companion that could make you smile
Ballie is an AI companion robot deeply integrated with the SmartThings platform. It is equipped with cameras and a mini projector and can follow users around their homes. It can share weather reports, stream movies, display Samsung Health data, assist with shopping lists, control smart home devices, and more.
Pricing and release dates are unknown for now, but Samsung previously assured fans that Ballie will go on sale in the USA in the first half of 2025. Whether other markets will get Ballie within the same timeframe is unclear. Thankfully, the wait is almost over.
2025 will be an eventful year for Samsung, and if Ballie isn't up your alley, the company is working on a few other ambitious projects that might catch your eye. Standouts include the Galaxy S25 Edge, the Galaxy XR headset, and the rumored Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE and tri-folding phones.
Nevertheless, Ballie is arguably more special than most other devices planned for a 2025 release. It is the first product of its kind in Samsung's portfolio, and many fans have been looking forward to its debut because of its uniqueness. Ballie may share some technologies with Samsung's Bespoke Jet Bot Combo AI vacuum cleaner, but it has a personality and is more of an AI companion than an AI appliance. We're excited to see it in action.
