Galaxy S26 Ultra camera could bring back one of Samsung’s best ideas

Galaxy S26 Ultra camera could bring back one of Samsung’s best ideas

Samsung has a habit of introducing groundbreaking features to its products only to abandon them after some time. One such feature could be making a comeback with the Galaxy S26 Ultra's camera.

Galaxy S26 Ultra could feature variable aperture

According to tipster Ice Universe, Samsung could equip the Galaxy S26 Ultra's camera with variable aperture. This feature will reportedly be only available on the phone's primary rear camera. Huawei and Xiaomi are offering this feature on flagship phones, but they weren't the first to introduce it.

Samsung introduced dual-aperture with the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+. Those phones could switch between F1.5 and F2.4, depending on the scene. Choosing the F1.5 aperture setting allows more light into the camera sensor, resulting in reduced noise but a narrower field of view. The F2.4 aperture would be ideal in daylight conditions where there is no shortage of light or when you need a wider field of focus.

This dual-aperture feature was available in the Galaxy S10 series, but Samsung removed it with the Galaxy S20 series. It appears that Samsung is planning to bring variable aperture with the Galaxy S26 series. It isn't clear if it is truly variable aperture (multiple settings), like the one found on the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, or just dual-aperture (just two settings) as seen on the Galaxy S9.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra introduced a 50MP sensor for the telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra bumped up the resolution of the ultrawide camera to 50MP. With the Galaxy S26 Ultra, Samsung is expected to up the resolution of the 3x zoom telephoto camera to 50MP.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra is also rumored to feature a Silicon Carbon battery with up to 5,500mAh capacity and a more power-efficient display.
