Exynos haters will love the latest Galaxy Z Flip FE rumor

Things are currently looking tumultuous for the Exynos team. After a decent showing from the Exynos 2400 last year, Samsung was expected to use the 3nm Exynos 2500 chip in the Galaxy S25. However, that didn't happen, as Samsung exclusively used the Snapdragon 8 Elite for the Galaxy S25 series.

A report claimed the Exynos chip would debut with the Galaxy Z Flip 7, but even that didn't happen. Another report then claimed that the Exynos 2500 would be used in the Galaxy Z Flip FE later this year. But even that isn't confirmed, which will make Exynos haters happy.

Samsung reportedly doubtful about using Exynos 2500 in Galaxy Z Flip FE

According to the South Korean publication The Bell, the future of Samsung's Exynos team is foggy. This year is critical for Samsung's System LSI team, which designs Exynos chips. Its fate will depend upon the success of the Exynos 2500, Samsung's next-generation flagship processor.

The report claims that Samsung hasn't finalized the chip for the Galaxy Z Flip FE. Apparently, there are conflicting opinions within Samsung MX (Samsung's mobile division) about using the Exynos 2500 in the Galaxy Z Flip FE, which is expected to be launched in the fourth quarter of this year.

Amid intense competition from Chinese brands in the foldable smartphone segment, Samsung MX may not want to use the Exynos chip. In the past, Exynos chips have performed poorly compared to Snapdragon chips from Qualcomm, and many people associate the Exynos branding with subpar performance.

A Samsung insider reportedly told The Bell, “The Exynos 2500 production plan is constantly changing. I thought it was certain, but I heard that the possibility has recently decreased slightly.“

Since the Galaxy Z Flip FE is expected to launch several months after the Galaxy Z Flip 7, Samsung still has time to finalize whether or not to use the Exynos 2500 in the Galaxy Z Flip FE. Even if the company uses the Exynos chip, it might not result in higher sales, but it could create a positive impact on the image of the Exynos division and Samsung Foundry's 3nm process node.

The Galaxy Z Flip FE is expected to be similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 6 in terms of design and specifications (except for the chip). You can watch our Galaxy Z Flip 6 review in the video below.

Samsung Foundry, Samsung's semiconductor chip manufacturing division, has failed to get any big clients for its 3nm process node, and everything depends on the good performance of the Exynos 2500 chip to prove that the company's 3nm process node is reliable.

So, both Samsung Foundry and System LSI are reportedly putting all their efforts into making Samsung MX use the Exynos 2500 in the Galaxy Z Flip FE. Simultaneously, Samsung Foundry and System LSI also seem to be working on the Exynos 2600 to prove their competitiveness in the cutting-edge process node segment.
