YouTube on Samsung TVs to get new feature to limit kids access

Google has started rolling out a new feature for the YouTube app on smart TVs. It will limit access for kids by placing the PIN requirement. Without the PIN, kids can't access videos that aren't meant to be viewed by them.

Google has announced (via 9To5Google) that it will soon start rolling out a new feature called ‘Parent Code' lock. When the feature is enabled, it will “prevent kids from watching YouTube signed out or accessing accounts meant for older members of your household.

The 4-digit PIN must be entered to watch YouTube as a signed-out viewer, access accounts of older members (13 years old or applicable as per the country) in the family, or remove existing accounts from the app.

People have been requesting this feature since Google implemented profile switching in the YouTube app for smart TVs, and Google is finally adding it. It was especially needed since Google has started retiring the YouTube Kids app that was designed specifically for kids.

Since Samsung TVs are quite popular, the feature might make it to the Tizen version of YouTube soon. Once the feature is available on your TV, you can access it by opening the YouTube app, navigating to Settings » Parent Code, and following the prompts to set up a 4-digit code.
