The Galaxy S5 will not receive any major Android updates since it’s more than two years old. However, Samsung continues to send out security updates for the device. Samsung is rolling out a new firmware update for the Galaxy S5 in Europe. The latest update brings the July security patch.
Samsung last released a security update for this handset four months ago. Back then the Galaxy S5 received the March security update. The company has now released another security update for the handset.
The July Security Maintenance Release is the most recent security patch update for Android. It fixes 65 Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) in the Android operating system. The update also brings fixes for 16 vulnerabilities found in Samsung’s own software.
The Galaxy S5 (SM-G900F) is now receiving firmware version G900FXXU1CQG1 across Europe. Germany, Austria, Poland and Romania are just some of the markets where this update has been released so far.
It remains to be seen if and when this security update is released for the handset in other markets across the globe. The Galaxy S5 is still used by quite a few people. The most popular Samsung smartphone in the United States happens to be the Galaxy S5.
