You could soon buy and play games via Xbox app on Galaxy devices

Earlier this year, Microsoft revealed its intentions to launch the Xbox games store for Android devices. Now, the company has announced that users could soon buy and play games via the Xbox app on their Android smartphones and tablets.

Xbox games app for Android to launch in November 2024

A few days ago, Xbox President Sarah Bond announced on X that players can purchase and play games via the Xbox store on Android starting November 2024. This is possible due to a recent court ruling that said Google should allow third-party app stores to be distributed via the Play Store.

Thanks to this ruling, Microsoft can now stream Xbox games via the cloud to smartphones and tablets running Android. Since Microsoft doesn't make games specifically for smartphones, the games that you can play via the Xbox app will be Xbox games streamed from the cloud. It is also likely Xbox Cloud games will only be available in countries where Xbox Cloud is currently available.

Even if they aren't native games for Android, they offer an additional option for gamers who want to play their favorite games on their mobile devices. Devices like the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra will be great for Xbox Cloud game streaming. You can watch the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra in our video below.

Google has announced that it will appeal against the recent court ruling, so there is still a slim chance that Google will win the appeal and won't have to allow Microsoft to stream cloud games via the Xbox app.
