Samsung’s first Galaxy S Fan Edition phone gets a new update

The October 2024 security update is rolling out to the Galaxy S20 FE, Samsung's first Fan Edition Galaxy S smartphone, just a few weeks after the latest model went on sale. Unlike the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra, the S20 FE continues to receive monthly security updates, and the October security patch is now available for it.

In Korea, the S20 FE October 2024 update is rolling out to the 5G variant and can be identified by the build number G781NKSS9GXJ1. In Europe, the update is available for both the 4G and 5G variants and sports the build number that ends with the characters FXJ3 or HXJ3.

To get the update on your S20 FE, go to Settings » Software update » Download and install. It is also available for download in our firmware library if you wish to manually upgrade your phone, though you will need a Windows PC and a USB-C cable for this.

The Galaxy S20 FE received its final Android and One UI updates (Android 14, One UI 5.1) last year, so all of its recent updates have brought only security fixes, and this month's update is no different. The October update fixes 30 security flaws in the Android operating system and 12 that exclusively affect Galaxy devices, along with a couple of vulnerabilities discovered in some of Samsung's Exynos chips.

If you want the latest One UI features, including the entire Galaxy AI package, you may want to look at the Galaxy S24 FE as a potential upgrade. In addition to the latest software features, the S24 FE is eligible for seven major Android OS upgrades, making it an excellent investment for those who like hanging on to their phones for as long as possible.
