Following the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition in Korea at the beginning of the week, Samsung's foldable phone strategy is as unpredictable as ever. Nevertheless, we now have new information suggesting that Samsung has grander plans for its foldable phone portfolio for 202 and could release more than two models.
Our colleagues at GalaxyClub have received information about the codenames Samsung is using for the Galaxy Z lineup in 2025. And surprise! Samsung is already working with three variants instead of two. They are:
- Codename B7 — Galaxy Z Flip 7.
- Codename Q7 — Galaxy Z Fold 7.
- Codename Q7M — Unknown Galaxy Fold variant.
Keep in mind that we're still in 2024, so this information doesn't guarantee that Samsung will release two, three, or more than three foldable phones in 2025. However, it does confirm that, as of this writing, Samsung is working on at least three foldable models behind closed doors.
What's the third model?
The only reason we've labeled codename Q7M “Unknown Galaxy Fold variant” instead of Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition 2025 is the letter “M” in the codename.
As some will recall, the Special Edition foldable phone Samsung launched this week was initially known by the codename Q6A. It wasn't Q6M. So, common sense suggests that a direct sequel to the first Special Edition would bear the codename Q7A instead of Q7M.
The story continues after the video
This new “M” letter could mean one of several things. Maybe the mysterious Q7M is called that instead of Q7A because it's a 2025 Special Edition phone for the global market rather than a limited-edition device. Global availability could call for a new designation.
Or perhaps the Q7M is not a Special Edition model but a completely new take on the Fold formula. There are rumors that Samsung might finally release a dual-folding Fold model in 2025 to show Huawei who's the king of foldables.
Whichever the case may be, keep in mind that there's still a long way to go until Samsung releases its next foldable phones, presumably in the summer of 2025. Many things can happen by then. All this is preliminary information that is subject to change, even if accurate at the moment of writing.
