One Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition feature may be hidden, and that’s good

One major complaint Samsung fans have about the company's foldable phones, apart from the fact that their spec sheets are often outmatched by the competition, is that Samsung hasn't done enough to make the crease invisible to the eye.

Foldable phones have displays that, well, fold, and so they have a crease running down or across the middle that can be distracting, both visually and physically. Making the crease completely invisible is a fool's errand, but Chinese manufacturers have done a fantastic job at making it as inconspicuous and unobtrusive as possible.

Samsung, on the other hand, hasn't shown the same passion in that regard. It chose to make incremental improvements each year that weren't worth writing home about. It was only with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 this year that Samsung made a notable difference.

The crease on the Fold 6 and Flip 6 is hard to miss when the display is off. But when it's turned on, the crease on the 2024 models is considerably less reflective. Thanks to some under the hood changes, it's also less noticeable to the touch when your finger glides across the middle of the screen.

Fold 6 Special Edition crease may be least distracting implementation yet

And it seems Samsung isn't done. According to a tipster with an excellent track record, the company has “done a good job in crease control, better than ever” on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition that's slated to arrive sometime before the end of the year.

The tipster doesn't go into more detail or talk about how Samsung has achieved the so-called crease control. But their wording suggests the improvements to the crease will not be trivial.

Of course, those who bought a Galaxy Z Fold 6 may not like the idea of a special variant coming out so soon after the regular model and will wonder why Samsung didn't implement some of the improvements and enhancements on that regular model.

Fans will also be disappointed that the Fold 6 Special Edition won't even be available in most countries. But hey, it is what it is. We're just happy Samsung is finally working on addressing a few of the shortcomings of existing Galaxy Z Fold smartphones, like the less-than-stellar camera specs, instead of turning a blind eye to customer feedback.
