Samsung made its latest flagship tablet lineup official without much fanfare this week. With the Galaxy Tab S10 lineup, Samsung is reducing the number of display sizes customers get to pick from.
There is no longer a base Galaxy Tab S model. You get only a Galaxy Tab S10+ and a Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra, with the two models featuring 12.4-inch and 14.6-inch AMOLED displays. Moreover, a MediaTek chip (the Dimensity 9300+) powers the Galaxy Tab S10 lineup. You won’t find a Snapdragon or Exynos chip powering the tablet in any market.
On the software front, out of the box the Galaxy Tab S10+ and Tab S10 Ultra match the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6: both tablets run Android 14 and One UI 6.1.1. The tablets will get Android 15 (and One UI 7.0) before the end of 2024, but how many major Android upgrades will the tablets get after Android 15?
Galaxy Tab S10+ and Ultra eligible for seven years of software updates
Samsung has confirmed that the Tab S10+ and Tab S10 Ultra will get software updates for seven years. That period will include Android, One UI, and security updates. Android 21 will be the final major Android OS upgrade for these tablets, which is impressive any way you cut it.
It’s not as impressive as what enterprise versions of Samsung’s mid-range tablets will get. The Galaxy Tab Active 5’s enterprise edition, for example, is eligible for eight years of updates. However, seven years is still a long time, even when considering the fact that customers don’t change their tablets as often as their smartphones.
