Samsung will be sole display driver supplier for OLED Apple iPad Pros

Apple is developing six new iPad models. Among them are 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros. The tech giant is said to offer both tablets with OLED displays, and Samsung Display is one of the two companies supplying OLED panels for those models, with the other company being LG Display. Now, we have some more information on the matter.

According to a new report from Korea's ET News, Samsung's System LSI will be the sole supplier of display driver IC (DDI) for the upcoming 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models. The publication claims that Apple will use Samsung’s DDIs even for models that will be equipped with OLED display panels from LG Display.

Usually, Apple sources a component for a product from multiple vendors to maintain a steady supply and negotiate unit prices. However, the company is ditching the policy in this case as Samsung’s DDIs are reportedly much better than those from other companies. At least that’s what we could understand from the report.

Apple is expected to announce the next-generation iPad Pro lineup in the next couple of weeks. Apart from OLED displays, it is expected to feature a new design, the M3 chipset, an improved camera setup, and MagSafe wireless charging. The company is also expected to launch a redesigned Magic Keyboard for the two tablets.
