Quick Share, Samsung's answer to Apple's AirDrop for fast transferring of files and media between Galaxy devices (including tablets and laptops) using Wi-Fi Direct and Bluetooth, is getting a new update this week.
Until last month, Galaxy devices came with both Quick Share and Nearby Share. Nearby Share was Google's alternative for data transfer between any Android phone or tablet regardless of brand, but it didn't work as well as Quick Share, so Google and Samsung decided to merge Nearby Share with Quick Share and make the latter the default content sharing option for all Android devices.
The update that merged the two sharing features into one was rolled out to Galaxy devices a few weeks back, and the new update that's out now carries the same changelog, suggesting that it doesn't bring anything interesting or important except for some under-the-hood improvements.
However, it's also possible that the original update wasn't released everywhere or for every device and Samsung is fixing that with the version that's rolling out this week. In addition to folding Nearby Share into Quick Share, the original update also increased the upload limit for files shared with contacts over the cloud to 5GB from 3GB.
The latest version of Quick Share can be downloaded via the Updates menu of the Galaxy Store. If you don't see any update right away, simply check again a few hours later and over the coming days.
