It has been over a year since Samsung released the Galaxy Buds+. They were a solid pair of wireless earbuds at a decent price, however, they missed a few features that customers would have liked to see.
The Galaxy Buds 2 launched today can be considered as somewhat of a successor to the Galaxy Buds+. However, the new earbuds stand head and shoulders above the 2020 model with great new features and an enhanced listening experience.
Galaxy Buds 2 vs Galaxy Buds+: Audio and call quality
The Galaxy Buds 2 support Bluetooth 5.2 as opposed to 5.0 on the Galaxy Buds+. The dual-driver setup with one AKG-tuned woofer and tweeter is a similarity between the two models. One major difference between the two is Active Noise Cancellation. The Galaxy Buds 2 features ANC which Samsung claims can remove up to 98% of unwanted background noise.
With three microphones on each earbud coupled with the Voice Pickup Unit, both of these earbuds are great for making calls. However, the Galaxy Buds 2 are even better at it courtesy of the machine learning solution they utilize to improve voice quality in calls.
Galaxy Buds 2 vs Galaxy Buds+: Additional features
Both wireless earbuds have an Ambient Mode that enables users to tune into their surroundings. They can also use the Swift Pair feature to easily link up with Windows 10 PCs. There are a handful of features missing from the Galaxy Buds+ that are present on the new model. The Galaxy Buds 2 gets the Auto Switch feature which enables seamless switching between Samsung devices. It also gets Game Mode for reduced latency in games.
SmartThings Find is another great feature that’s missing on the Buds+. It enables users to easily locate their lost Galaxy Buds 2 with SmartThings. It’s also pertinent to note that while the Galaxy Buds+ have an IPX2 rating, the Galaxy Buds 2 get a more superior IPX7 rating, meaning that they can also be submerged in fresh water for a limited time.
Galaxy Buds 2 vs Galaxy Buds+: Battery life and charging
With ANC disabled, the Galaxy Buds 2 can last for up to 7.5 hours (5 hours with ANC enabled). Its charging case provides an additional battery life of up to 28 hours with ANC off (20 hours with ANC on).
On the other hand, the Galaxy Buds+ provides 11 hours of battery life with the charging case providing an additional 11 hours of listening time. With the charging case, the Galaxy Buds 2 last longer while the Galaxy Buds+ last longer on their own on a single charge.
The Galaxy Buds+ were launched at $129 while the Galaxy Buds 2 cost $150. For just $21 more, you get a lot more features and a set of earbuds that are Samsung’s smallest and lightest yet. This is an upgrade worth making.
