Galaxy S8 sales reportedly fall behind the Galaxy S7

The Galaxy S8 got off to a great start for Samsung as it instantly broke pre-order records for the company. It has been a couple of months since the handset was released and those who really wanted to buy one have probably picked one up by now.

It’s inevitable for sales to cool off a bit after the initial hype has died down but if a new report out of South Korea is believed, the Galaxy S8 sales have actually fallen behind that of the Galaxy S7 last year.

South Korean news outlet The Bell reported today that brokerage analysts predict Samsung sold 9.8 million units of the Galaxy S8 in the first two months since launch. If the figure is true, it would be around 20 percent less than the 12 million units that the Galaxy S7 sold during the same period in 2016.

Samsung hasn’t provided an update on the numbers for the Galaxy S8 since May 16. That’s when the company confirmed that global shipments of the Galaxy S8 had exceeded 10 million units in three weeks after the launch.

A local analyst believes that Samsung is not revealing sales figures now because there has been a slowdown in sales. It has also been claimed in the report that Samsung has reduced supply order for some parts which also suggests that it sees a decline in demand.

Saturation in the high-end smartphone market is said to be a reason for this, though, and not because the Galaxy S8 isn’t liked enough.

A Samsung official didn’t confirm or deny this report but only said that the company estimates Galaxy S8’s sales volumes to be similar to the Galaxy S7 as of now.
