Samsung has announced that it will soon discontinue the Samsung News service. This means the Samsung News app, widget, and dedicated media page on the leftmost home screen of Galaxy phones and tablets will cease to exist very soon. It offers latest news, sports scores, stock updates, and more.
The company posted a discontinuation notice within the Samsung News app in India and South Korea. According to the notice, Samsung News will shut down on December 21, 2026, at 00:00 UTC. It is highly likely that the service will also be discontinued in other markets, though we are still waiting for official confirmation through Samsung's official channels in those markets.

Following the shutdown of Samsung News, all user data, profiles, and personalization information will be deleted. The only exception is if local regulations require the company to retain certain information for a stipulated period, after which that data will also be permanently erased.
It appears Samsung is streamlining its software ecosystem by discontinuing redundant or underutilized services. Samsung News launched in 2023 as a replacement for Samsung Free. Before that, Samsung Free took over from Samsung Daily in late 2020. Samsung Daily debuted in October 2019, replacing the original Bixby Home feed that launched in April 2017.
Below is the clear launch timeline for the launch of Samsung's news-related services.
- Bixby Home: April 21, 2017
- Samsung Daily: October 30, 2019
- Samsung Free: November/December 2020 (with One UI 3.0)
- Samsung News: April 18, 2023
It isn't clear what will happen after shutdown of Samsung News. It is possible that it will be replaced with Google Discover, which is already an option on Galaxy phones and tablets. Samsung also recently announced the shutdown of the Daily+ service on its TVs and smart monitors.
