The Galaxy Z Fold series offers a near-seamless cross-screen experience. For example, you can open a Samsung app on the cover screen and interact with the app's phone UI, or you can unfold the phone and resume using the app on the main screen through the tablet UI. It works the other way around, too.
This transition doesn't work flawlessly for every app, particularly third-party ones. Nevertheless, it's a perfect example of how Samsung tried to create a seamless, streamlined experience across both screens.
A part of that streamlining process was contextually hiding certain options from the Settings app and revealing them only when the phone is unfolded. These settings pertain solely to the main screen experience. As a result, One UI shows them only when you access the Settings app from the main screen. It's Samsung's way of keeping the UI a little cleaner.
So, in case you can't find a specific option on your Fold, you might be using the “wrong” screen to access the Settings app. To help you find these hidden or grayed-out settings on your Galaxy Z Fold, we've made a list of all the ones we could find.
Hidden Galaxy Z Fold 8 settings
- Multi view / Standard view: Settings > Display > Screen layout and zoom.
- App aspect ratios: Settings > Apps > [desired app].
- Aspect ratio: Settings > Display.
- Recent or suggested apps: Settings > Home Screen.
- Easy mode (grayed-out on the cover screen): Settings > Display.
- Taskbar (grayed-out on the cover screen): Settings > Display.
- Landscape view for portrait apps (grayed-out on the cover screen): Settings > Advanced features > Labs.
NOTE: The above was tested on a Galaxy Z Fold 8. Your experience might differ slightly on other phones. Some options are also different across Fold models. The Fold 8 Ultra offers “Flex mode panel” options under “Advanced features,” but the Galaxy Z Fold 8 doesn't have this option because it doesn't support Flex Mode.
Whether the list above will stay the same or change with future One UI updates is anyone's guess, but we'll let you know if it's the latter. Either way, it makes sense why Samsung tried to simplify menu-diving on its dual-screen devices, and it all works quite well as long as you know those options exist and can be accessed from the main screen.
