Samsung has announced a new collaboration with The Longleaf Alliance in the United States. This collaboration aims to help restore native longleaf pine forests in the state of South Carolina.
The initiative is in line with Samsung's global water stewardship goals, and will also help deliver benefits for biodiversity and water resources.
Restoration efforts will focus on over 200 acres of land
This initiative represents one of the first investments that The Longleaf Alliance's Longleaf Biodiversity Impact Fund has made. The fund makes it possible for corporations to support landscape-scale restoration and species recovery projects in line with their sustainability commitments.
Samsung has long maintained a presence in South Carolina, where it has a home appliance manufacturing base in Newberry County. With this partnership, it will help restore native forests that will contribute to watershed health and strengthen ecological resilience.
More than 200 acres of unmanaged forestland on privately forestland will be restored under this initiative, through measures such as ecological thinning, longleaf pine establishment, and prescribed fire. All of these activities will contribute to the improvement of forest health while also increasing water yield through a reduction in evapotranspiration.
In addition to that, this project will also include biodiversity monitoring through forest assessments and acoustic recording technology. The implementation, inventory, and monitoring will have oversight from Milliken Advisors throughout the project.
