Samsung has partnered with Volkswagen to make your Galaxy phone even more useful. You can now lock, unlock, and start a compatible Volkswagen vehicle using a Digital Key stored in the Samsung Wallet app. However, this feature is currently limited to select electric models.
Samsung Wallet can now store Digital Key for your Volkswagen car
You can lock, unlock, and start your Volkswagen car using the Digital Key stored in Samsung Wallet. You can also use your phone to open the trunk remotely. The Digital Key can also be shared with trusted people, such as family members and friends, to grant them temporary access to your vehicle.
The feature relies on NFC and UWB technology. On Galaxy devices equipped with UWB, such as the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and select newer high-end models, you do not even need to take the phone out of your pocket for hands-free entry. On devices without UWB, the system falls back on NFC, which requires you to take your phone out and tap it against the car's door handle.

Supported Models
- ID.Buzz
- ID.Cross
- ID.Polo
- ID.3neo
- ID.4
- ID.5
- ID.7
To support Samsung Wallet integration, these models must have been produced on or after April 27, 2026, and be running ID. software 6.0.1 or newer. Older vehicles are not supported. The feature began rolling out across 37 European countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK, on August 18, 2026.
If a Galaxy device containing your Digital Key is lost or stolen, you can use Samsung Find to remotely lock the device or wipe the key entirely.
According to Samsung, the Digital Key is stored directly on the device and secured by Samsung Knox. The system meets rigorous EAL6+ certification standards and complies with the UWB Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC) standard to prevent side-channel attacks and unintended access.
