Google’s desktop-based data backup for Android won’t work with Galaxy devices

Google’s desktop-based data backup for Android won’t work with Galaxy devices

When Google develops new features for Android, they usually make their way to almost all Android phones and tablets in one form or another. However, a new data backup solution that Google is reportedly developing won’t be available for Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets.

Quick Share's Windows app won't support Samsung Galaxy devices

A report from Android Authority reveals that Google is working on a new data backup solution for Android phones and tablets. It will be integrated into Google’s Quick Share app for Windows and will let users back up data from their Android devices wirelessly over Wi-Fi. Leaked screenshots of the feature include a note stating that “Samsung phones aren’t supported.”

The likely reason for this restriction is that Samsung already offers a similar solution called Smart Switch, which can back up all the data on Galaxy phones and tablets to a Windows PC or a macOS device. Still, having another backup option would have been nice.

Google’s solution could be intended for all other Android smartphone and tablet brands, as the leaked screenshots specifically mention that Samsung phones are unsupported. It can automatically back up photos, videos, and audio files when the Android device and the Windows PC are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
