Samsung is getting closer to Elon Musk and his companies. After manufacturing multiple chips for Teslaâs electric vehicles, AI servers, and humanoid robots, Samsung has reportedly started working on next-generation brain implant chips for another Elon Musk company, Neuralink.
According to a report from Hankyung, Samsung Foundry has begun research and development on Neuralinkâs fourth-generation chip. This marks the first time Samsung has secured a contract from Neuralink. The project reportedly carries the internal codename âO1â and is expected to be manufactured using Samsung Foundryâs 4nm process technology. The chip is designed for use in Neuralinkâs brain-computer interface systems.
Samsung reportedly began work on the new chip late last year, and production of the first test chips started last month. The chip is scheduled to be shipped in the first half of 2027. If testing goes as planned, mass production could begin in the second half of next year.

With its brain implant technology, Neuralink aims to enable people to control devices using brain signals rather than physical movements. Neuralinkâs devices are implanted through a surgical procedure involving the skull and are designed to create a direct connection between the brain and external devices.
Industry observers expect business ties between Samsung Electronics and Elon Muskâs companies to continue expanding in the coming years.
