Samsung, after debuting its latest Android customisation, One UI 9.0, and releasing its beta version for the Galaxy S26 series, started working on releasing it for older Galaxy S, as well as Galaxy A series smartphones. However, there hadn’t been any evidence that the brand was developing the new software for the Galaxy Z series. That’s changing today.
On Samsung’s server, a firmware file for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 featuring One UI 9.0 has been spotted for the first time (via Fahad Ali Javed). The discovery suggests that the brand has started working ion released is latest Android customisation for Galaxy smartphones to its current flagship foldable phone. It carries firmware version F966USQUACZF3.
Samsung's current Android customisation for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, One UI 8.5, is based on Android 16 QPR2, a slightly upgraded version of Android 16, and offers a ton of visual changes and additional features over One UI 8.0. One UI 9.0 is based on a totally new version of the OS, Android 17. Despite that, it doesn’t offer as many UI changes or new features as the previous version.
That's because the South Korean tech giant appears to be following a software strategy where it reserves major upgrades for One UI X.5 releases rather than One UI X.0 updates. The brand is expected to debut the stable version of the new software with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Flip 8 next month, and then release it to older eligible devices.
