Dua Lipa wants $15 million from Samsung for using her image to sell TVs

Dua Lipa wants $15 million from Samsung for using her image to sell TVs

Samsung is typically sued by patent trolls and other companies in its industry, but it's now facing a different kind of lawsuit, one from British pop icon Dua Lipa.

She has sued the company for $15 million, alleging that the Korean giant used her image without permission to market its televisions.

Samsung allegedly kept using it even when asked not to

The lawsuit filed by Dua Lipa seeks at least $15 million in damages. It claims that Samsung used the pop star's image without her permission to market its TVs.

It's further claimed that a copyrighted image of Dua Lipa was used on the front of retail cardboard boxes used for Samsung TVs. This may have given customers the impression that she was endorsing the product, and thus enabling the company to benefit from her star power.

This lawsuit has been filed in a California federal court. It highlights that all rights, title, and interest of the image used on the TV boxes are owned by Lipa. In addition to claiming that Samsung has infringed copyrights and trademarks, the lawsuit also claims that Samsung Electronics has breached publicity rights.

Lawyers for the pop star have attached screenshots of various social media postings in the filing, and have highlighted at least one fan comment which said they would buy the TV “just becauase Dua is on it.”

Her lawyers also said that Dua first became aware of this alleged infringement in June 2025 and demanded that Samsung cease and desist from using her image. It's claimed that Samsung continued to do so, hence this lawsuit.

Samsung hasn't commented on the matter, but it's entirely likely that this doesn't turn out to be a long drawn trial, and that a settlement may be reached between the two parties.
