Samsung was the first Android smartphone brand to push for longer software support. Starting with the Galaxy S24, it decided to offer seven major Android OS updates to high-end devices. But what about entry-level and mid-range devices? Well, with its upcoming entry-level phone, the Galaxy A16 5G, the company is planning to offer six major Android OS updates!
Galaxy A16 5G could be Samsung's first entry-level phone to get 6 Android OS updates
The Galaxy A16 5G could be launched in the next few months, and its design has already leaked. Now, a report from TheTechOutlook claims that the Galaxy A16 5G will receive six major Android OS updates and security patches for up to six years. This information comes through a series of slides used for training sales representatives.
If this information is correct, Samsung is taking the right step by offering extended software support for all its upcoming phones, regardless of their price. This is something that is unheard of in the Android ecosystem, as most entry-level phones get a maximum of two major Android OS updates.
Other leaked slides reveal that the Galaxy A16 5G features a plastic body. It will reportedly be 7.9mm thin and have a Key Island design that Samsung debuted earlier this year. The phone will have a mirror-like effect on the back and have an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance. It will be available in three colors: Blue Black, Gold, and Light Green.
The Galaxy A16 5G will feature a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen with Full HD+ resolution, a 90Hz refresh rate, and up to 800 nits of peak brightness (in High Brightness Mode). It will come equipped with the 5nm Exynos 1330 processor, featuring two Cortex-A78 CPU cores and six Cortex-A55 CPU cores. It will also have the Mali-G68 MP2 GPU and a built-in 5G modem. It will also come in another variant with a MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ chip.
The upcoming entry-level smartphone will have 4GB/6GB/8GB RAM and 128GB/256GB internal storage. It will have a USB Type-C port but not the 3.5mm headphone jack. It appears that Samsung is removing a dedicated headphone port even from its entry-level devices. The phone weighs 200g and measures 164.4 x 77.9 x 7.9mm. The phone has a 5,000mAh battery.
