So far, Google has launched four Tensor chipsets, and it has gotten all those manufactured by Samsung Foundry. Before the latest Tensor SoC, the Tensor G4, came out, there were rumors that the search giant would get its fifth Tensor processor, the Tensor G5, manufactured by TSMC. Earlier this year, a leak confirmed those rumors. Now, we have confirmation about it from another source. Interestingly, the new report also says that Google will go with TSMC over Samsung for Pixel 11’s Tensor G6 as well.
According to a new report from Business Korea, Google will get the Tensor G5, which it will use for the Pixel 10 series phones, manufactured by TSMC rather than Samsung Foundry. The publication claims that the Tensor G5 will be manufactured on TSMC’s 3nm fabrication process. Furthermore, the report says that Google will ditch Samsung in favor of TSMC for the Tensor G6 too, which it will use for the Pixel 11 series phones. According to it, the Tensor G6 will be manufactured on TSMC’s 2nm fabrication process.
Why is Google choosing TSMC over Samsung Foundry?
Sources close to the matter have claimed that Google is planning to ditch Samsung in favor of TSMC because of the former’s “low” and “unstable” yield rate. Reportedly, the South Korean tech giant’s yield rate for 3nm chips is as low as 20%. Reportedly, TSMC’s yield rate for 3nm chips is around 80%, which is much higher.

Rumors suggest that Samsung Electronics will ditch the Exynos 2500 SoC in favor of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 for the Galaxy S25 series. That’s is already a big blow to Samsung Foundry. Now, Google too is leaving. This will significantly impact Samsung Foundry’s revenue and profits, which could affect future developments.
