Galaxy S26 could continue to disappoint hardware upgrade lovers

Samsung has slowed down the pace of hardware upgrades in smartphones over the past few years, especially for non-Ultra phones. The Galaxy S25 will reportedly use the same cameras as the Galaxy S24, which, in turn, will use the same cameras from the Galaxy S22 and the Galaxy S23. That's not it. The same camera could be used again for the Galaxy S26.

Galaxy S26 could feature the same 50MP camera as the Galaxy S22

While the Galaxy S25 is at least three months away from going official, the first set of information related to the Galaxy S26 has been leaked. According to reliable tipster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce), the Galaxy S26 will use the same 50MP primary rear camera as the Galaxy S24 (and the Galaxy S25).

Since ‘Plus' models in the Galaxy S lineup always use the same cameras as the base variant, the Galaxy S26+ might also use the same 50MP primary camera. That means Samsung will use the same camera sensor for five years in a row, clearly showcasing that the company is cutting corners in the hardware segment and relying too much on processor and software improvements for camera quality upgrades.

Even Apple is upgrading cameras on iPhones more frequently than Samsung is doing for its phones. To learn how the Galaxy S24's primary camera performs, check out our video below.

The Galaxy S25 and the Galaxy S25+ are expected to feature a 50MP primary camera and a 12MP selfie camera. Information about their telephoto and ultrawide cameras hasn't leaked yet, but Samsung will likely continue to use the 10MP sensor for the telephoto camera. Ideally, the company should upgrade the ultrawide camera on the Galaxy S25 and the Galaxy S25+ to a 50MP sensor similar to the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra reportedly features a 200MP primary rear camera, a 10MP telephoto camera, a 50MP super-telephoto camera (5x optical zoom), and a 50MP ultrawide camera. On the front, it could have a 12MP selfie camera. Hopefully, Samsung will bring the ability to record 4K 120fps HDR videos to all Galaxy S25 series phones.
