Galaxy A55 is Samsung’s first mid-range phone with 12GB of RAM

Samsung announced the Galaxy A55 earlier today and revealed its specs in an official capacity, following tons of leaks that already gave away everything that we needed to know. One exciting aspect of the phone that has now been confirmed is that it comes with up to 12GB of RAM.

This is the first time a mid-range phone from Samsung is getting 12GB of RAM, which will complement the special new Exynos chip that powers the Galaxy A55. The Exynos 1480 has an AMD-powered GPU, and while we will have to test the phone to see how the new chip performs, it should theoretically enable the A55 to offer some of the best performance we have seen on a mid-range Galaxy phone, especially for gaming.

The Galaxy A55 comes in multiple memory configurations. You get 8GB of RAM with 128GB or 256GB of storage or 12GB of RAM with 256GB of storage. It remains to be seen how widely available the variant with 12GB of RAM will be. Samsung hasn't provided that information yet, but you should be able to learn about the 12GB variant's availability in your country on the official Samsung website once the Galaxy A55 goes up for sale or pre-order.

The Galaxy A55 is priced at €479 for the 8GB+128GB variant and €529 for the 8GB+256GB variant; pricing for the 12GB+256GB configuration is not available as of March 11. Sales start sometime later this month, with exact release dates varying by market.
