Samsung released an update for Galaxy S26 Ultra, then halted rollout

A few days ago, Samsung rolled out the first software update for its latest lineup of non-foldable flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S26 series, which brought the February 2026 security patch. The company was expected to release another update to the phones later this month to offer the March 2026 security patch. While that update is still pending, Samsung appears to have briefly pushed a new update to the Galaxy S26 Ultra in China — only to halt the rollout shortly after.

On X, a popular tipster, Ice Universe, reports that on March 20, 2026, Samsung released a software update for the Galaxy S26 Ultra in China. The update, which was 982.88MB in size, carried firmware version S9480ZCU1AZCG. According to the changelog, it improved the system stability and reliability (translated from Chinese).

However, after keeping the update rollout open for a few hours, Samsung reportedly suspended it. The company has not provided an explanation for the pause, though such rollbacks typically occur when issues are discovered post-release.

Major OS upgrade for the Galaxy S26 is already under development

Speaking of updates for the Galaxy S26, a few days ago, we got our hands on Samsung’s official firmware for the phones featuring One UI 9.0. Based on Android 17, it is the brand’s next version of Android customisation for Galaxy smartphones. It brings many a slightly redesigned user interface as well as a few new features. We have also made a video to demonstrate all the changes, which you can check out below.
